Ghost Cities: Beyond the Image Back to Portfolio

In recent years the Chinese real estate market has been slowing down in many second, third, and fourth-tier cities causing vacant or underused housing developments to proliferate, often due to government subsidized overbuilding. Whole cities lay vacant as do smaller housing developments littered across the cities. Mapping these "Ghost Cities" exposes weaknesses in metropolitan and regional real estate markets, showing the risk of investing in these markets. This research project shows how "Big Data" can be used to identify these ghost developments and create a map of risk. Link to Project Site
